2026 Week 8 Fantasy Football Injury Recap

Week 8 fantasy football injury recap: Lamar Jackson, Kyler Murray, Christian Watson and more, with recovery timelines, re-injury risks and fantasy impact.

2026 Week 8 Fantasy Football Injury Recap

Week 8 delivered potentially season-changing injuries and one of the wildest returns to action you’ll ever see. Lamar Jackson faces possible season-ending thumb surgery, Kyler Murray’s hamstring threatens his rushing upside, and Jeremiyah Love is back on injured reserve. Meanwhile, Christian Watson went from an ambulance ride to the hospital to catching passes in the same game.

With fantasy playoff races tightening, knowing who can play is only part of the equation. This week’s recap breaks down expected time missed, re-injury risk, and the players positioned to benefit, using our Injury Data Center to help explain what these injuries could mean for production when players return.

Quarterbacks

Lamar Jackson — Baltimore Ravens

Injury: Right thumb injury

Expected time missed: At least four games; Likely season-ending

Re-injury risk: Moderate

Primary beneficiary if time missed: Joe Fagnano; Kedon Slovis if Fagnano is unavailable

Fantasy Impact:

Jackson’s season may be over after Baltimore confirmed he will undergo surgery on his right thumb. The Ravens have not disclosed the full diagnosis, but the apparent dislocation raises concern for damage to the stabilizing ligaments, potentially including the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL).

An isolated thumb UCL repair can allow a return in roughly six to eight weeks, with research in collegiate football players showing an average of seven weeks for skill positions. The possibility of a season-ending absence raises concern for a more complex injury.

The longer-term outlook is more encouraging. Assuming an uncomplicated repair and recovery, I would not expect this injury to meaningfully limit Jackson entering 2027. That remains conditional on the final diagnosis, but outcomes after surgical treatment of thumb UCL injuries are generally favorable.

Kyler Murray — Minnesota Vikings

Injury: Hamstring injury

Expected time missed: TBD

Re-injury risk: Moderate

Primary beneficiary if time missed: Carson Wentz

Fantasy Impact:

Murray is dealing with a hamstring injury that leaves his Week 9 availability uncertain. His mobility is a major part of his game, and any limitation in acceleration, scrambling, or extending plays could significantly reduce his fantasy upside.

Murray has already disappointed fantasy managers, and this injury adds another concern. Our Fantasy Injury Data Center shows a decline of more than 20% in quarterback fantasy production after hamstring injuries, with production remaining depressed through the first four games after returning. Even if he plays, reduced rushing production could make him difficult to trust.

If Murray cannot go, Carson Wentz would take over. For Justin Jefferson and the rest of Minnesota’s passing game, a healthy Wentz could be a better option than a limited Murray.

Tyler Huntley — Baltimore Ravens

Injury: Turf toe

Expected time missed: Out Week 9; potentially multiple weeks

Re-injury risk: High

Primary beneficiary if time missed: Joe Fagnano; Kedon Slovis if Fagnano is unavailable

Fantasy Impact:

Huntley is a candidate for injured reserve after suffering a turf toe injury Sunday. The mechanism appeared textbook: a defender landed on his raised heel while his toes remained planted, forcing the big toe into hyperextension and stressing the supporting structures beneath the joint.

The injury involves his right big toe, which is particularly troublesome for a right-handed quarterback. Beyond limiting acceleration and scrambling, pain with push-off can interfere with his ability to generate throwing power from his back foot.

Our Fantasy Injury Data Center includes a small sample of quarterbacks with toe injuries, showing an average of 2.1 games missed and no major change in fantasy production after returning. That is encouraging, but the limited sample and possibility of IR mean Huntley’s absence could be longer.

With Lamar Jackson potentially out for the season, Huntley could still provide value once healthy. He is worth considering as a stash in superflex or two-quarterback leagues, particularly if an IR spot is available.

Joe Fagnano — Baltimore Ravens

Injury: Right ankle injury

Expected time missed: Day-to-day

Re-injury risk: Moderate

Primary beneficiary if time missed: Kedon Slovis

Fantasy Impact:

Fagnano is preparing to make his first NFL start while managing a right ankle injury. Making a debut on a short week is challenging enough, and an injury to his back leg adds another obstacle. Pain or limited ankle mobility could interfere with his push-off, weight transfer, and ability to generate throwing power, while also making it harder to escape pressure. Even if he plays Thursday night, the ankle adds uncertainty to an already difficult fantasy situation.

Running Backs

Jeremiyah Love — Arizona Cardinals

Injury: Right ankle injury

Expected time missed: At least four games

Re-injury risk: High

Primary beneficiary if time missed: Tyler Allgeier

Fantasy Impact:

Love’s frustrating rookie campaign continues after suffering a right high ankle sprain, on the same side he injured in training camp. His placement on injured reserve strongly suggests a moderately severe sprain, which raises concern for associated instability.

These injuries can be tricky to manage. If stability is not adequately restored, lingering issues can alter ankle mechanics and affect planting, cutting, and push-off. The good news is that Love will have at least four games to focus on rehabilitation, and his youth supports an encouraging outlook for restoring full motion and stability.

For 2026, I would expect Arizona to take a cautious approach with the third overall pick, limiting his immediate fantasy upside. For his career, however, expectations should remain very high.

Bhayshul Tuten — Jacksonville Jaguars

Injury: Ankle/foot injury

Expected time missed: Day-to-day

Re-injury risk: Moderate

Primary beneficiary if time missed: Chris Rodriguez Jr. (if healthy), LeQuint Allen

Fantasy Impact:

Tuten is dealing with foot and ankle injuries and has not practiced this week, putting his Thursday night availability in jeopardy. The short turnaround leaves little time to recover, and both injuries can interfere with a running back’s ability to plant, change direction, and push off explosively.

Foot injuries are particularly concerning, with our Fantasy Injury Data Center showing an average 38% decline in fantasy production after injury. Even if Tuten suits up, I would expect a reduced workload, with the combination of fewer touches and potential movement limitations lowering his fantasy ceiling.

Bam Knight — Arizona Cardinals

Injury: Concussion

Expected time missed: TBD; pending protocol clearance

Re-injury risk: Moderate

Primary beneficiary if time missed: Tyler Allgeier and Evan Hull

Fantasy Impact:

Knight took a brutal hit to the head and was quickly announced out with a concussion.  He will have to pass through the concussion protocol to play.

Wide Receivers

Christian Watson — Green Bay Packers

Injury: Rib fracture

Expected time missed: Day-to-day

Re-injury risk: Moderate

Primary beneficiary if time missed: Matthew Golden; Savion Williams

Fantasy Impact:

The NFL story of the week came Thursday when Christian Watson left the stadium in an ambulance, underwent hospital testing, and returned to the game. I’ve never seen anything like it outside of WWE.

Watson suffered a rib fracture but should still be able to play. The 10 days between games give him valuable time to reduce pain and restore motion through his torso and shoulders, even though the fracture will not be fully healed. Discomfort with reaching, rotating, and absorbing contact may persist, but his ability to return Thursday is encouraging.

Our Fantasy Injury Data Center shows only a 12% average decline in receiver fantasy production following chest injuries. With extra recovery time and an already demonstrated ability to play through the injury, Watson should remain a locked-in fantasy starter if active.

Michael Wilson

Injury: Rib fractures

Expected time missed: TBD

Re-injury risk: Moderate

Primary beneficiary if time missed: Trey McBride

Fantasy Impact:

Wilson briefly exited Sunday’s game before returning, then revealed he was playing through two broken ribs. He had already been dealing with rib pain entering Week 8, so whether these were new fractures or an aggravation of the existing injury remains unclear.

Rib fractures can make deep breathing, torso rotation, and reaching overhead painful, all important demands for a receiver. Returning to the game is encouraging, but it does not mean the fractures have healed or that pain will be minimal next week.

Our Injury Data Center shows only a 12% dip in fantasy production for receivers after rib injuries. If Wilson can practice and is cleared to play, I would remain comfortable using him, with some concern about pain limiting his upside.

DJ Moore — Buffalo Bills

Injury: Knee hyperextension

Expected time missed: None expected

Re-injury risk: Low

Primary beneficiary if time missed: Khalil Shakir and Keon Coleman

Fantasy Impact:

Moore hyperextended his knee Sunday but appears to have avoided a significant injury. When there is no associated ligament or meniscus damage, knee hyperextensions typically do not cause lasting issues. Short-term bruising, soreness, and stiffness can develop, but these symptoms generally resolve quickly.

We’ll monitor Moore’s practice participation throughout the week, but his outlook is encouraging, and I would not expect a meaningful impact on his fantasy production if those symptoms settle.

Kendrick Bourne — Arizona Cardinals

Injury: Right tibial fracture

Expected time missed: Potentially season-ending

Re-injury risk: Moderate

Primary beneficiary if time missed: Michael Wilson; Simi Fehoko and Reggie Virgil for additional snaps

Fantasy Impact:

Bourne’s season is over after suffering a right tibial fracture that is expected to require approximately three months of recovery. He is not expected to need surgery, which is encouraging, but the bone still needs adequate time to heal before it can tolerate the repeated impact and rotational demands of running routes.

For 2026, Bourne can be dropped in redraft leagues. He is older, and not a high-value fantasy asset and can also be dropped in dynasty.

Tight Ends

Jake Ferguson — Dallas Cowboys

Injury: Ankle injury

Expected time missed: Day-to-day

Re-injury risk: Moderate

Primary beneficiary if time missed: Luke Schoonmaker if healthy; otherwise Brevyn Spann-Ford and James Mitchell

Fantasy Impact:

Ferguson suffered a low ankle sprain Sunday, and follow-up testing was encouraging. His Week 9 availability remains uncertain, but there is optimism that he could avoid an extended absence.

Low ankle sprains can cause pain, swelling, and reduced stability when planting or changing direction, affecting both route running and blocking. Our Injury Data Center shows a 14% decline in fantasy production for tight ends after ankle injuries. Ferguson remains a starting option if he can play, but the injury adds some concern about his upside.

Hunter Henry — New England Patriots

Injury: Foot injury

Expected time missed: TBD

Re-injury risk: Moderate

Primary beneficiary if time missed: Eli Raridon

Fantasy Impact:

Henry left Sunday’s game with a foot injury and could not return. The exact diagnosis remains undisclosed, making it difficult to project his recovery or Week 9 availability.

Foot injuries can affect planting, cutting, and generating power through push-off. Encouragingly, our Injury Data Center shows no change in fantasy production for tight ends after foot injuries. That supports confidence in Henry once he is ready to play, though his diagnosis and practice progression will determine when that happens. If he misses time, Eli Raridon would step into a larger role and become a potential streaming option.
